Open Contracts were challenged to deliver this major structural and external façade refurbishment to the ground floor entrance of 11 Old Jewry. All the works were completed whilst the offices above were in occupation with no disruption to the tenants day to day activities.
Works began with the breaking out of the existing front door, slab and steps. The new slab had to be reinstated at a lower level to accommodate the requirement of a new DDA compliant access ramp. A new steel frame was constructed to support the new slab which was formed using Holorib and reinforced concrete and was located directly above the plant room which had to protected during the works.
The new entrance was constructed with a steel frame and was clad using Portland stone. The new bespoke doors and side panels were powder coated to match the existing windows and installed. A new access ramp was constructed using concrete and finished in granite and stainless steel.
The existing Crittal style window frames were refurbished, redecorated. The mullions separating the windows were over-clad with Portland Stone cladding to enhance the appearance.
Works to the external façade included the removal of existing brown granite cladding which was replaced with new 30mm thick flame grey granite along the entire length of the building. Louvers to the basement plantroom were removed, replaced and sprayed to match the existing windows. The existing pavement lights were refurbished.
